I've been working in a doctor's office since 2000. I work for a group of cardiologists. I recently went part-time to 3 days a week. I decided that time was more important than money in this stage of life. I have a lot of hobbies and other interests and realized that 2 days off a week just isn't enough to do all the things I want to do. I have a big garden and we're remodeling our house which keeps us busy. I also help run a boy scout troop. My son became an eagle scout many years ago and when he moved on to college, I stayed with the troop to help keep it going. I love camping, hiking and other outdoor things and this makes me take the time to do that once in a while.
I also took up running at this late stage in my life. I recently ran a 1/2 marathon in February of this year in Austin. I like challenge myself to do something completely out of my comfort zone sometimes and running a 1/2 marathon was something I would never have seen myself doing in the past. I'm not sure what my next challenge is yet but I'll think of something.
I also like to dance. I made friends with some Greek dancers at a restaurant in San Antonio and they invited me to join them so now I'm a regular dancer on the first Saturday of every month at Demo's on N. St. Mary's. No, not belly dancing, Greek folk dancing.
It's a lot of fun dances, some easy and some complicated. We try to get the patrons up to dance with us and we teach them the steps and everybody has a great time. Greeks know how to party. I'm still learning to do the Zorba dance which is a very fun but complicated dance. I suppose that could be considered another challenge for me. I could never have seen myself as a dancer in the past.
My husband, Randy, and I have been happily married for 31 years now. Our son, Shawn, lives in Fort Worth and our daughter, Audrey Kate, is attending college in Denton. we're both looking forward to retirement in a few years and we plan to travel once our daughter gets out of college.
